Glenn Roy Schleede was born on June 12, 1933 in Lyons, New York. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He received a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 1960, and an M.A. in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota in 1961. He worked as a Management Intern then Contractor Personnel Specialist for the Atomic Energy Commission, 1961 to 1965.
